Neil Armstrong memorial

NASA astronauts, political leaders and members of the Armstrong family will attend a public memorial today for Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, who died on August 25.

The service will be held at Washington National Cathedral , which is known as the spiritual home for the nation.

The first man to walk on the moon, Neil Armstrong, will be buried at sea. The astronaut was a Navy fighter pilot before joining the space program. He flew 78 combat missions off an aircraft carrier during the Korean War. Mr Armstrong asked to be buried from an aircraft carrier.

President Obama has paid tribute to Neil Armstrong, calling him "one of America's greatest heroes".

The former astronaut, who became the first man to walk on the moon, has died at the age of 82.
