Investigation continues after Oxford fire and explosion

Police and fire investigations are continuing into a fatal explosion in Oxford. Now the name of a victim has been released.

Police searching the site of the explosion in Oxford on Tuesday say they have found human remains. Officers began a brick by brick search of the rubble this morning. The housing association A2 Dominion says staff are saddened to learn of the discovery and offered support to other residents. Here's our report from Mary Stanley.

Human remains have been found at the site of an explosion in Osney Mead in Oxford.

A search of the area around Gibbs Crescent started at 10am this morning - the human remains this afternoon.

The process of recovering the deceased person is under way.

Emergency services were called to the area on Tuesday afternoon to reports of an explosion, a fire and the collapse of a property.

On Thursday Thames Valley Police issued a public appeal for Guido Schuette, aged 48, who was unaccounted for and was believed to have died during the incident.

His family has been informed of the latest development today and are continuing to be offered support from officers.

Gibbs Crescent will remain closed until further notice.

A resident who was unaccounted for in the aftermath, has been named as Guido Schuette aged 48. He is described as 6ft tall, of a heavy build, with short grey hair and blue eyes. He is believed to walk with a limp and uses a crutch as well. His family have been informed and Thames Valley Police have issued a statement.
