Off-duty emergency service workers save 5-year-old who stopped breathing after seizure in Kent pub

  • Video report by ITV Meridian's Sarah Saunders

When five year-old Lila Page collapsed and stopped breathing during a seizure in a pub in Kent, an off-duty ambulance technician and two fire-fighters were on hand to save her life.

Lila and her mum were meeting with friends for dinner at The Railway Pub in Rainham, when the little girl fell to the floor during a seizure.

Ambulance technician Charlotte Speers had popped to the pub for coffee and a catch up with a friend while on maternity leave, when she heard the commotion and stepped in to help the child and her mother.

Charlotte began CPR immediately, and brought Lila round before the ambulance had time to arrive.

By chance, also in the Railway Pub in Rainham were two off duty fire-fighters Marc Rustage and  James Knight. The group who together saved Lila's life met the Duke of Cambridge for Emergency Services Day.

It's been discovered that little Lila has a heart condition causing her seizures. She's had surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital and is doing very well.
