Ram-raiders have targeted two cashpoints in the same weekend in east Kent.

In the first incident, a digger was used to try to remove the ATM at the Tesco Express store along the High Street in Dymchurch.

When police arrived at the scene, at around 2.15am on Sunday, the cash machine was still in place but there was significant damage to the building.

Three vehicles, including a silver 4x4 and a flatbed Ford Transit with a crew cab, are said to have been in the shop’s car park at the time of the incident and they each left the scene, travelling towards Hythe.

The digger is additionally believed to have been stolen from the Dymchurch Beach car park at around 1.40am on the same date.

In the second incident, a digger was again used, this time successfully, to steal the cashpoint from the Shell filling station along Thanet Way near Dargate at 1.50am on Monday.

Police believe the same group carried out both ram-raids.

The store has not closed because the cashpoint was separate to the store, but the canopy has been badly damaged.

The cash machine and the flatbed truck used to take it away have been recovered.

They were left at a farm a few miles away from the petrol station but Kent Police are continuing to appeal for the public's help.
