An iconic beach in Dorset, known for it's appearances on ITV's Broadchurch, is closed following a 1,000 tonne rockfall.

Rangers have cordoned off the coast path between West Bay and Freshwater. The beach also remains closed.

Dorset County Council is warning of dangerous overhangs from the top of the cliff.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident at East Cliff West Bay on Tuesday 12 March.

Police officers were called along with Coastguard officers and both ambulance and fire crews.

A search dog and police helicopter were also mobilised to the scene.

Crews don't believe anyone was injured in the fall.

Dorset County Council is urging visitors to stay away from the edge and base of cliffs.

A spokesperson said: "Landslides and rock falls can, and do, happen at any time – and you can be at risk even at low tide. The Jurassic Coast is a wonderful place to visit, but it's important to use common sense and caution."
