Air ambulance at serious crash on M40 in Oxfordshire

Tailbacks on the M40 northbound

There were long queues on the M40 northbound between Junction 8A (A418) at Oxford and J9 (A34) at Bicester, following a serious accident at around 9 o'clock this morning.

There was congestion on the route all the way to Junction 8 at Oxford. The air ambulance was deployed to the scene to help with any casualties. Traffic trapped behind the incident was let past the scene before midday for recovery work to start, alongside an investigation into the accident.

The South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) confirmed that they had received several calls just before 8.30am from people reporting an accident involving a motorcyclist between J8-9/M40.

An SCAS spokesperson said that the motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the incident. The Thames Valley Air Ambulance, an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle were deployed to the scene.

The 24-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured. He was flown to the major trauma unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
