Spirit of the South: the rich history of the River Medway

Our Spirit of the South series celebrates the region's hidden treasures.

The River weaves it way through Sussex and Kent and, in doing so, tells us much of the rich history of Southern England.

This was an invasion point for the Romans, Vikings and even the Dutch. Dockyards built ships that ruled the waves. While muddy banks fuelled industries that heralded the modern age. Derek Johnson takes a journey into the past.
