Fresh hope for burned out pier

Hastings Pier was almost completely destroyed by fire fifteen months ago, but today there may be new hope for the landmark's future.

The town's council today served a compulsory purchase order on the owners of the Grade Two listed structure, saying they had failed to carry out repairs.

If approved by the Government the move could pave the way for an eight million pound restoration project. Derek Johnson reports.
