Paddy Dear fundraising campaign hits £20,000 amid tributes for 16-year-old who died in fall
A fundraising campaign in the name of a 16-year-old London teenager who died after a fall off cliffs at a Welsh beauty spot on a geography trip has hit £20,000.
The family of Patrick Dear, known as Paddy to his friends, suspect he may have fallen near a study centre at Dale Point in Pembrokeshire after collapsing because of a blood condition called sepsis.
ITV News report Toby Sadler has more:
Paddy was on a field trip with other pupils of the Campion School in Hornchurch but was found dead after he went missing.
His family began a campaign to raise £2,000 to put his name on shirts for the 2017 Campion rugby tour of Australia and to raise funds for causes chosen by Paddy's family.
Paddy's uncle, Danny Coyle told ITV News: "Not soon after Paddy passed the family knew they wanted to do something in his memory because they knew he would have been going on tour to Australia next year."
They are also raising funds and awareness to tackle sepsis, which blood tests show Paddy was suffering with at the time of the fall.
The condition can lead to septic shock which can cause dizziness, breathlessness, and a loss of consciousness.
