Mother to meet Ministers to ensure progress on her ban for old tyres
A mother is meeting the new Transport Minister in Westminster to ensure the government continues its commitment to her campaign to ban old or worn tyres being used on coaches.
Frances Molloy's 18 year old son Michael was killed in a crash while returning to Liverpool from the Bestival Music festival on the Isle of Wight in 2012.
Talented guitarist Michael, along with bus driver Colin Daulby, who was 63, and 23 year old Kerry Ogden were all killed after the Merseypride coach’s 19-year-old tyre blew out, causing the catastrophic accident on the A3 in Surrey.
Liverpool's BAFTA award winning actress Jodie Comer knew Micheal and has long supported his mother's 'Tyred' campaign to take dangerous tyres off the roads.
The "Tyred" campaign, launched by Michael's mother Frances, calls for a ban on tyres more than 10 years old on buses, coaches and minibuses.
An inquest into her son's death found the old tyre caused the fatal crash.
In February 2019 the then Transport Minister Jesse Norman announced the Government would start consulting on options to ban tyres over 10 years old from buses, coaches, lorries and mini-buses.
Frances Molloy said she was "ecstatic' now four months she's meeting the new Transport Minister Michael Ellis to check on the progress of the government commitment to ban old or worn out tyres.
