Labour kept control of councils across Merseyside in the local elections.

So far results have shown a stable win in Sefton, Wirral, St Helens.

In Liverpool they lost three seats to the Liberal Democrats - who have nearly doubled their showing on the City Council.

Labour now has 76 of the city's 90 seats, second is the Lib Dems on seven.

The Green Party still has four councillors.

One of the three Labour Councillors to lose their seats was the Mayor's Cabinet Member for Housing Frank Hont.

He lost to Lib Dem candidate Carole Storey by 244 votes in Childwall.

She said she was 'elated' and thinks she won through hard work and honesty:

Childwall has a large Jewish community but Cllr Storey does not think her victory was down to a backlash against Labour after claims thatanti semitism was not being dealt with robustly enough within the party.
