Firefighters tackled a major blaze in a building in Longsight, Manchester.

Emergency services were called to the burning building on Plymouth Grove at 1.50pm on Easter Monday.

It’s understood the building is abandoned.

Four fire engines were at the scene, with roads in the surrounding area closed to traffic.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire Service said it appeared nobody was inside the building.

A video clip shared on social media shows firefighters using a jet to fight the flames, which can be seen from the top floor window and roof of the building.

There also appeared to be a large amount of smoke billowing from the property.

Drivers were warned of road closures in the area. The A6 Stockport Road was closed between Plymouth Grove and Devonshire Street, with buses in the area on diversion.

Initial indications are that it’s an arson attack and it’s believed the building has been derelict for many years.
