CCTV images captured the moment convicted murderer Shaun Walmsley escaped custody as armed men freed him from prison guards.

Walmsley was sprung from custody during a visit to Aintree Hospital on Tuesday.

The CCTV shows the offenders with the security guards and Walmsley, but also shows a number of witnesses in the area who police think may well have been unaware of what was going on at the time.

Walmsey had been servicing a 30-year sentence for the murder of Anthony Duffy in May 2014.

Detective Superintendent Natalie Perischine explained:

Police say Walmsley is dangerous and shouldn't be approached, they're urging anyone who seems Walmsley to call them straightaway on 999. Anyone with information on his whereabouts can contact Merseyside Police or Crimestoppers.
