A 73-year-old man has been jailed for two years for attempting to import £65,000 worth of amphetamine into Jersey.

Paul Cassidy, from Brentwood in the UK, pleaded guilty before Jersey's Royal Court today (Friday 10 January).

He arrived in Jersey on Saturday 12 October 2024 in a Vauxhall Astra on board a Condor ferry from Poole.

When stopped by Jersey Customs and Immigration officers the vehicle was searched and a green package was found under the car. It was taped between the fuel tank and the vehicle's chassis.

The package contained 810 grams of amphetamine and a further 8.6 grams of the drug was found in Cassidy's wallet.

The street value of the drugs is estimated to be around £65,000.

Cassidy was also travelling using false identification and presented a driving licence in a different name.

He denied all knowledge of the package found beneath the vehicle, telling officials that he'd brought the car to Jersey on behalf of a third party who he declined to name.

Cassidy admitted to providing false identification and having the smaller amount of the amphetamine in his wallet, some of which he said he used while travelling to Jersey.
