Two teenagers rescue 6-year-old boy in Alderney
Two teenagers have been applauded for rescuing a six-year-old boy who was being dragged out to sea.
Tobin Collier, aged 14, and Isaac Maurice, aged 13 were at Braye Beach when they spotted the young boy in trouble out on his paddle board.
On 2 August, the young boy was on holiday in Alderney with his family. He was playing on a paddle board at high tide at Braye Beach. The tide turned and started to pull him out to sea by the Douglas Quay.
His dad quickly swam out to try and help, however was not able to swim against the strong tide.
Luckily, the teenagers were on hand and had both been given Royal Life Saving Society Training from St Anne's School.
When they saw what was happening, they were quick to assess the situation in light of their training. They swam the few hundred metres across the bay to catch up with the boy and managed to reach the paddle board and stopped it moving any further out to sea.
Eventually, Alderney’s water taxi arrived and brought the boy ashore.
After the event, the teenagers were both thanked on Quay FM by the parents who sent in a message to show how grateful they were for the help.
