A cafe owner in Jersey has taken matters into her own hands to clear sea lettuce from St Aubin's Bay.

The owner of Nude Food has applied for a licence to enable her to clear the seaweed herself, rather than wait for government action.

She says on some occasions it can take up to two weeks to be cleared, which can be very off putting for her customers.

Sea lettuce has been a blight on our beaches for three decades now but unfortunately it is something that isn't leaving anytime soon, as Jersey's Infrastructure Minister explains.

But despite this statement, it has not stopped the team at Water Resources from doing all they can to come up with a solution to the sea lettuce problem.

The Infrastructure Minister and Shelley Hawkins from Water Resources, also both explained how the slurry spill which occurred in St Aubin's Bay in June could have also contributed to a small amount of sea lettuce arriving on our shores but added that it would have returned anyway because of the amount of nitrates that enter our water on an annual basis. So, sadly for business owners and residents alike it looks like the war on sea lettuce is far from over as Jersey remains locked in a seaweed stalemate.
