Trial along St Aubin's Bay to remove sea lettuce
The States of Jersey have been patrolling a tractor along the beach to St Aubin's Bay to remove the sea lettuce which has been washed up on the shore.
It is all part of a trial to improve the way seaweed is removed.
Instead of driving forwards in shallow waters the tractor will now reverse along the beach to collect more sea lettuce on each journey.
The problem of seaweed gathering along the beach has been a constant issue around this time of year.
One of the biggest complaints is the bad smell from such a large amount of seaweed.
There's also been the problem with swimmers bathing in pools with them being clogged with seaweed.
The States hope that the trial will allow them to restrict the growth of sea lettuce from the shallow shoreline instead of removing it from the sand.
Martin Gautier, the Director of Technical Services at the Infrastructure department has said the aim is to get the sea lettuce out of the wet sand before it becomes a major problem.
