Second electricity cable from Guernsey to France could be on the cards
A second electricity cable link to France, and locally generated renewable energy could power Guernsey in the future.
Politicians have agreed their energy targets for the next 30 years as they aim to be carbon neutral by 2050.
There are also plans to reduce emissions by 57% in the next ten years.
It is part of the long-awaited Energy Policy that was proposed by the Committee for Environment and Infrastructure and was voted through the States today (4 June).
A business plan will be created by Guernsey Electricity and the States’ Trading Supervisory Board for a second, direct electricity cable linking Guernsey with the European grid. The aim is to reduce the need for diesel generators. A consultation will begin looking into generating renewable energy locally with the aim of increasing resilience.
