Chief Minister: Changing Jersey's lockdown exit strategy 'unnecessary'

Jersey's Chief Minister says it would be "unnecessary" to change the government's coronavirus exit plan at this stage.

Senator John Le Fondré's comments come after Deputy Jess Perchard called for the government to adopt a Guernsey-style elimination approach to the pandemic, by introducing widespread testing and tracing.

But today, as politicians debate Deputy Perchard's proposition, the Chief Minister is expected to encourage his colleagues to vote against it, and force an amendment instead.

He says he believes ongoing lockdown is not realistic, and that his current delay, contain, shield policy - while keeping the number of positive cases to "near zero" - is the better way forward.
