All Jersey retailers that can ensure physical distancing to reopen from Monday
All retailers in Jersey that can maintain two-metre physical distancing can reopen from Monday (18 May).
The Deputy Chief Minister today made the announcement, just days after he loosened the lockdown rules to allow larger retailers to reopen.
Senator Lyndon Farnham also confirmed talks were underway to find a way for dental practises, hair and beauty salons, and health and fitness establishments to also reopen.
He described the move as a “safe and proportionate” increase in freedoms for islanders.
It comes as he begins the formation of a new Economic Council to drive the policies that will shape Jersey’s economic recovery.
He also confirmed efforts were underway to prevent a “cliff edge” when the government’s co-funding scheme which part pays many workers’ wages, comes to an end. He indicated seasonal firms and those that rely heavily on tourism would be given specific support.
Senator Farnham said: “I want to reassure our island businesses that we will provide ongoing fiscal support to those worst-hit right through the pandemic”.
