Islanders are being encouraged to 'Bee Friendly' by supporting pollinating insects in their green spaces.

The Channel Islands Pollinator Project says islanders should set aside 10% of their land or gardens as habitat to help slow the decline species.

The organisation has now released an animated video outlining what people can do to help.

Islanders can take the following steps to help pollinating species.

  • Grow pollinator-friendly flowers in your flower boxes or garden

  • Install bug hotels and bee boxes

  • Cut your grass less often

  • Think carefully before using pesticides and other chemicals

  • Plant pollinator-friendly trees

  • Leave part of your garden to grow wild.
