Guernsey's lockdown exit strategy to be published next week

The detail of Guernsey's exit strategy from lockdown should be published next week.

Guernsey was placed into lockdown on the 24 March to help curb the spread of coronavirus.

That period of lockdown was later extended with a promise to keep measures under constant review.

The President of the Health and Social Care Committee, Deputy Heidi Soulsby, said the new information will cover the phased approach to reopening businesses and lifting of restrictions on other "social, cultural and recreational activities".

The guidance will explain what each phase will look like and how the islands will arrive at each phase.

It will also illustrate how and why the islands could reintroduce lockdown measures.

Over the weekend some 'low risk' businesses re-opened as part of Phase Two of the governments lockdown restrictions.

However, many non-essential services that involve direct contact (like hairdressing and beauty salons) remain closed.

Earlier in the month Guernsey's Chief Minister, Deputy Gavin St Pier, mentioned the third phase may see a gradual lifting of lockdown rules, but travel off-island would still be restricted.
