Volunteers help supply food to Herm during lockdown
A businessman from Guernsey is coordinating food deliveries to Herm after the lockdown led to supply delays.
Herm has been in lockdown since the 23 March and, with its borders shut, the island depends on the weekly food delivery.
Not all of the food suppliers have been able to fulfill everyone's grocery orders, so Justin De Carteret from Guernsey and Herm Oysters has volunteered to co-ordinate the supply process.
Every Friday, a boat from Herm sails to Guernsey and is loaded up with food and other essential items.
Personal protective equipment is used by the boat workers and volunteers and all the food packaging is sanitised on arrival.
Morgan Jones lived in Herm for 13 years and her parents still run the Mermaid Tavern. She now lives in Guernsey but when she heard about the delayed food deliveries, she decided to step in to help.
There are currently no confirmed cases of coronavirus on Herm, however the Chief Executive Officer, Craig Senoir, says it has been a challenging time for the 58 residents to adjust to self-isolation.
Some have lost family members to coronavirus in the UK or are in still intensive care, however because the borders to Herm are closed they have not been able to visit sick family members.
