20 Specsavers jobs at risk in Guernsey

Specsavers says 20 jobs are at risk in Guernsey as the company battles turbulent trading caused by coronavirus.

The optician brand, which started in Guernsey, is the largest private employer in the island with 571 staff.

Many of the companies shops have been closed worldwide, those that remain open are only for essential and urgent care. This has led to less sales and less revenue.

The companies CEO has said the decision has been made with ‘an extremely heavy heart’ but no business can survive without customers and income.

Last month Specsavers asked most of their workforce to work from home in an effort to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Those that continue to work from their La Villiaze support office have had their working hours changed.
