Major re-roofing work to be carried out at Guernsey's Castle Cornet
Major re-roofing work is to be carried out at the Married Quarters in Guernsey's Castle Cornet.
The States says the 1970s roof has reached the end of its "serviceable life".
Over the past few years water has been entering the building causing problems for Guernsey Museums, Hatton gallery and the Maritime Museum. It's causing a risk to historical paintings and objects.
The main contractor appointed to carry out repairs says logistically it will be a challenge to carry out the necessary repairs "due to the exposed position within the Castle and the difficulty in servicing the site due to its location and measures are now being put in place to facilitate these difficulties".
It is estimated that it will take two months to put up the scaffolding and canopy before the roof stripping can start.
New slate tiles have been selected and engineering work will also be carried out to strengthen the roof timbers.
The work on Castle Cornet is scheduled to be completed by the end of summer this year.
