Essential work to replace the roof at the former Married Quarters of Castle Cornet will take place next year.

The quarters are located next to the Maritime Museum which means objects from the museum will be removed and made safe ahead of the works.

This means it will be closed for 2019.

Staff say the current roof slates are no longer serviceable and water is entering the building, particularly during bad weather, posing a threat to exhibitions.

They say replacing the roof and adding new roof insulation will improve the environment of the museum and its energy efficiency.

The castle's other museums and refectory will remain open but the Hatton gallery will not be available for events during the spring.
