'A big loss for motorsport' - Guernsey's Sand Ace Championship scrapped
Guernsey's British Sand Ace Championship is no more.
The international status event - one of only two in the UK - has been dropped from the local sand racing calendar after a vote by members of the Guernsey Motor Cycle & Car Club at its AGM.
It has been a feature of the island's motorsport scene since 2006, attracting top riders and big crowds to Vazon Beach with the latest edition won by grasstrack star Paul Cooper.
The fixture - one of 10 in the sand racing season - will be returned to local competition from next year following the decision by club members.
Posting on social media, five-time Sand Ace champion Mitch Godden thanked organisers for giving visiting riders "the opportunity to try something new, unique and outrightly special".
The event's outgoing chairman, Mike Clarke, told ITV News his committee are still considering options for the future.
