Guernsey nurses protest outside the States over pay offer

Nurses in Guernsey have been protesting on the steps of the States building over the latest pay offer.

Members of the Royal College of Nursing, the Royal College of Midwives and Prospect unions all voted to reject the deal.

Meanwhile the Agenda for Change union accepted the pay offer which was put forward by the Policy & Resources committee in October 2019.

The offer includes:

  • 5% increase to all pay scales and allowances (in line with normal practice) to apply from 1 January 2019 for a one year period.

  • 5% increase to all pay scales and allowances (in line with normal practice) for bands up to and including Band 7 to apply from 1 January 2020 for a one year period.

  • 3% increase to all pay scales and allowances (in line with normal practice) for band above 7 to apply from 1 January 2020 for a one year period.

The Royal College of Nursing have called that offer 'divisive' and 'insulting'.

They will be holding a meeting this evening (Tuesday 5 November) to decide whether to take industrial action.
