Guernsey nurses vote to reject pay offer

Nurses in Guernsey have voted to reject the latest pay offer from the States.

In the latest development in the ongoing row between unions and the government, 92% of those who voted from the Royal College of Nurses said they did not want to accept the deal. 59% of their members voted overall.

The union had previously described the pay offer as 'divisive and insulting' and will now hold a meeting on Tuesday 5 November to discuss industrial action.

Prospect and the Royal College of Midwives are due to announce the result of their ballots soon.

The offer was:

  • 5% increase to all pay scales and allowances (in line with normal practice) to apply from 1 January 2019 for a one year period.

  • 5% increase to all pay scales and allowances (in line with normal practice) for bands up to and including Band 7 to apply from 1 January 2020 for a one year period.

  • 3% increase to all pay scales and allowances (in line with normal practice) for band above 7 to apply from 1 January 2020 for a one year period.
