Guernsey politicians have backed £157m plans to reform secondary education.

Deputies voted in favour of funding the reforms, which included a 'two-school model' of secondary education, with one-super school on two campuses after two days of debate.

It means work to expand two secondary schools at Les Beaucamps and St Sampsons can begin.

The policy has proved divisive since the States agreed to the plans in January 2018.

The government has faced criticism for the timing of the debate from politicians in the Assembly, who say there has not been enough time to consider the details of the plans.

Subject to approval, the new secondary school will be named Lisia, and will be split between Victor Hugo College on the Baubigny site and de Saumarez College on the Beaucamps site.
