The Liberation Day Bank Holiday in Guernsey will now fall on Friday 8 May next year.

It comes after the States agreed to pass a proposition put forward by Deputy John Gollop.

With Liberation Day falling on Saturday 9 May, it will now mean islanders have a three-day-weekend.

The changes mean they are line with those passed by the UK government, which chose to move the May Bank Holiday from Monday 4 to Friday 8 May to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

Had the plans not been passed in Guernsey, it would have meant islanders lost out on having the day off with Liberation Day falling on a Saturday in 2020.
