Muratti Vase final 2018: Preview

Guernsey travel to Springfield as holders for the 102nd Muratti, having won five of the last eight, while hosts Jersey are looking to regain the Vase by winning back-to-back finals at home for the first time in a decade.

  • Talking Points

Guernsey manager Chris Tardif made the bold decision to include himself in his own squad having played just a few minutes in goal for Guernsey FC since breaking his leg eighteen months ago. The former professional, who captained the Sarnians to victory in 2013, will be the first player-manager in Muratti Vase final history if he gets on the pitch as he takes charge of his first clash with Jersey.

Jersey have played good football in recent finals, but have struggled for goals in the last two years. Martin Cassidy's men dominated possession and territory at Footes Lane in 2017 but finished on the wrong side of a 2-1 scoreline. They will look to the likes of young St Peter forward Jake Prince and the St Paul's duo of Karl Hinds and Jack Boyle to put things right this time around.

  • Form

Jersey have shown signs of improvement since going out of the FA Inter-League Cup in limp fashion back in December. They have won all three of their Muratti warm-ups, beating the Navy FA and Upton Park FC before rotating their squad to see off the Essex & Suffolk Border League.

Guernsey, who beat Alderney 2-0 to reach the final, also got the better of Upton Park with goals from Craig Young and Dom Heaume in their final warm-up game. Once again, most of their players are drawn from Guernsey FC's ranks, with the Green Lions finishing 18th in the Bostik South this season.
