Islanders in Jersey could soon see a new holiday village built on the border of St Lawrence and St Mary.

The owner of Tamba Park wants to build 27 self-catering units on the Green Zone site of a disused glasshouse.

However, concerns surrounding the development have led to delays on the planning proposals.

Tamba Park first submitted the plans for the huge £12 million expansion plans last year.

Deputy Steve Luce, Environment Minister, says 'if the development were to go ahead, it would be a significant departure from the Island Plan". He added, "the site lies in the Green Zone, where there is a presumption against development".

The plans, however, include the removal of a substantial glasshouse, which the Minister says will help to boost the tourism industry in the island, through the construction of visitor accommodation.

He is now calling for a for a public inquiry to discuss the complex nature of the proposals.

The proposed site plans for the building development at Tamba Park.

A second proposal by the applicant, JAJ Properties Ltd, has also been submitted to demolish glasshouses in a field next door and to build a four-bedroom home, garage and swimming pool. These will also be considered as part of the inquiry.

The inquiry date will be set shortly, and an independent inspector will be appointed.
