Sacked Coxswain Andy Hibbs reinstated and offered apology from RNLI

Jersey's Coxswain has been reinstated and issued a full apology by the RNLI, after an appeal.

Andy Hibbs told ITV News he is "relieved for me and the crew that it is sorted".

The charity asked him to stand down in April, for breaching the RNLI code of conduct.

His sacking sparked the entire lifeboat crew of 25 to resign, as well as public protests.

He explained: "It's left a very sour taste in my mouth and the crew's, but we've got an apology...to get a full apology from the RNLI it just doesn't happen."

The sacking sparked public protests

This morning Mr Hibbs received a letter from the RNLI which he claims apologises for his sacking as well as how he was treated in the following months.

He says all that is left now is to "get to the bottom" of how the situation arose.

Jersey's Assistant Chief Minister, Senator Paul Routier, has already promised an official investigation into what happened.

In particular Mr Hibbs thanks Deputy Steve Luce, Minister for Environment, saying he was "a solid rock" throughout the ordeal.

He added he is also grateful for support from the public and lifeboat stations all around the country, and his own crew.
