Sami the seal released back into the wild
Sami the Seal, who was found extremely ill on a beach in Jersey after Christmas, has been released back into the wild.
A team from the GSPCA sailed to les Ecrehous over the weekend to let her back into the sea.
The seal pup was found less than a third of the weight she should have been in December, and was sent to Guernsey to be cared for by the GSPCA.
The animal had "a long road to recovery" and the charity spent months nursing the animal back to a healthy weight.
Sami was treated with fluids, before moving onto fish soup, and finally solid fish.
Two volunteers from the RNLI offered their boat for the release, which was happily accepted.
Preparations started at 8am when Sami's pool was drained so she could be boxed up for the journery.
GSPCA Manager, Steve Bryne, says as soon as she was on board the boat "she was keen to get her first look at the sea and her nostrils took in the sea air".
When her crate was opened she was "not too sure at first", but as soon as she stepped outside it took only seconds for her to dive back into her home waters.
Two adult seals were seen in the distance, and the area was rich in wildlife from diving gannets to jellyfish swimming past.
After 15 minutes of diving around and entertaining the crowd that had gathered to watch her release, she swam off into the distance.
The GSPCA has spent six years rescuing and rehabilitating seals, and the charity say they would now like to refurbish their seal unit.
