Ancient skull found in Alderney is of 'child or young adult'
A skull dug up by workers in Alderney is believed to be from a child or young adult.
It was found near an Iron Age pottery site along Rue des Mielles, and an archaeologist says it it at least dates back to before WWII.
But, Dr Isabel Picornell explains the trench it was found in is not deep enough for it to be Roman.
She added it was unlikely to be a burial site and "what it was doing there, so far, is a mystery".
On further investigation a second small piece of leg bone was discovered but there were no scraps of metal or leather.
A paving slab was also found going under the road, which is expected to be examined.
The bones are being sent to Guernsey for further analysis.
