'Human skull' found near Iron Age pottery site in Alderney

What is believed to be an Iron Age human skull has been found by workers near an ancient pottery site in Alderney.

The team were digging a trench while laying water and electricity cables along Rue des Mielles.

They spotted the remains while digging, and the skull was smashed when it was excavated.

But, its teeth are still intact with one worker explaining: "It appeared very old, perhaps Iron Age, but it had a perfect set of teeth. It was fairly small."

Contractor Ian Tugby told ITV News they have never found a skull before, and contacted police about the find.

Officers sealed off the area and guarded it overnight.
