Guernsey politicians face formal complaints over alleged disability comments

Complaints have been filed against three Guernsey States Members following alleged comments made by a senior politician, about a colleague and his family.

The alleged comments related to Deputy Marc Leadbeater's ability to commit to political work because he has a family member with disabilities.

Deputy Mary Lowe, Deputy Paul Le Pelley and Deputy Lyndon Trott have now all been reported to the States Members Code of Conduct panel by two local charities.

The Guernsey Disability Alliance are concerned Deputy Leadbeater's failure to be re-elected to the Education Committee may have been caused by the "non co-operation" of the three politicians.

The Guernsey Community Foundation has also made a complaint relating to the "alleged comments and actions of three members".

Policy and Resources had promised to investigate the claims, but later said it had ''not proved possible to establish with certainty exactly what took place''.

But, the Guernsey Disability Alliance says the issue needs to be looked at further.

The Guernsey Community Foundation has taken a similar stance, saying a formal investigation is needed.

Deputy Paul Le Pelley, Deputy Lyndon Trott and Deputy Mary Lowe all deny any wrongdoing.
