'UK has a duty to represent Channel Island interests concerning Brexit'

The UK government has a duty to represent the interests of the Channel Islands when it comes to concerns about Brexit, Guernsey's President has said while at a summit in Cardiff.

It comes as Gavin St Pier criticised the UK's former Prime Minister for not considering the impact of Brexit.

He said it was "highly irresponsible" of David Cameron not to fully assess the affect leaving the EU will have on the crown dependencies.

He along with Jersey's Chief Minister attended the summit of the British and Irish Council at Cardiff yesterday.

Deputy Gavin St Pier said the UK's duty to represent the Channel Island's "is not optional".
