Gavin St Pier to visit Brussels following Brexit
Guernsey's top politican will be visiting Brussels in the near future, after the UK voted to leave the EU.
Deputy Gavin St Pier, President of Policy and Resources, was addressing the States Assembly this morning in a speech about how the island's government should deal with Brexit.
He added that 'proper handling' of the issue should be the States' 'top priority'.
However, he pointed out that the manpower needed to deal with the fallout will distract the government from its other goals.
A chorus of agreement was heard when Deputy Pier said he wants to reassure all EU residents that they're still welcome in Guernsey.
Finally, the President described the island as an 'oasis of calm' and a 'safe haven' in a world tackling terrorism and the implications of Brexit.
