Why do the Northern Lights happen?

The aurora borealis - or so called Northers Light - have been spotted across the Channel Islands in recent days.

Marc Mitchell and Nick Bisson took the above video on his GoPro. He perched the device on the roof of his house and pointed it north towards France on Monday night.

Why do the Northern Lights happen?

The natural phenomenon is caused by charged particles colliding in the earth's atmosphere and is seen above the magnetic poles of the northern and southern hemisphere.

Why have we seen them now?

Will we get to see them tonight?
