More armed officers on our streets following London attack

As the Prime Minister demanded Britain get tougher on Islamist extremism in the wake of the terror attack in London our Political Correspondent Alison Mackenzie spoke to communities living in the Midlands about Theresa May's comments.

The Library of Birmingham will be lit up in the colours of the union jack tonight in response to the London terror attack on Saturday.

Seven people were killed and more than 40 injured when three terrorists targeted revellers at London Bridge and Borough Market.

A vigil will be held at Birmingham Cathedral tonight in memory of those who were killed in the atrocity.

The Library of Birmingham will also be lit up in red, white and blue after dusk as a mark of respect.

A minute's silence will be observed nationally tomorrow in memory of those who lost their lives.

There will be more armed police on the streets across the Midlands following the terror attack in London.

Several of our police forces have said there will be an immediate increase on patrol in crowded spaces.

They stressed there is no specific threat and the heightened police presence is to reassure the public.

West Midlands Police is urging people to only call the '999' and '101' numbers when necessary, by releasing a short video.

Police said since the terror attack in London they have seen an increase in all calls.

Every year, the force receives more than two million telephone calls, of which nearly 700,000, are not genuine emergencies.
