Fabricant full of praise for Stephen Sutton

Warm tributes have been paid to Staffordshire teenager Stephen Sutton at Westminster today, after his funeral was held recently at Lichfield cathedral.

The 19-year-old raised more than £4m for cancer charities and inspired a nation, as he raised funds when completing his bucket list of things to do before he died.

His local MP, Michael Fabricant, raised his story in a question to the Church Commissioner Sir Tony Baldry MP.

Mr Fabricant said:

It's a shame that in this instance the Arch Bishop of Canterbury isn't in power to give sainthoods! But will my right honourable friend join me in congratulating the Dean of Lichfield Cathedral for seizing the moment...

...and taking advantage of the fact - in the best possible way - of this great out-feeling of passion and grief, that people in my constituency had over the great work and life of a 19-year-old who died of cancer.

A statement from Download bosses also revealed they will be pushing the fundraising drive at the event, which will be held at Donington Park from June 13 to 15.

At Download HQ, we were very sad to hear about Stephen Sutton's passing.

For those that don't know, Download Festival was one of the things on Stephen's bucket list and we were honoured to invite him along and have him with us at the festival last year.

In recognition of his epic fundraising efforts and for being an inspiration to us all, after speaking to his family, we've decided to name the main stage the Stephen Sutton Stage at this year’s festival. We’ll also be keeping the fund raising going at Download too.

Rock in Peace Stephen.
