Robbers targeting Newark children's charity shop causes £5,000 worth of damage
Thieves caused thousands of pounds worth of damage when breaking into a shop run by a life-saving children's charity.
The Children's Air Ambulance service estimates that the damage to the safe, doors and till in Newark could cost them up to £6,000 to fix.
That is almost how much it costs for them to fly two life-saving missions. The charity provides specialist life-saving transport and urgent care for critically ill babies and children.
The robbers broke in during the early hours of Friday 3 January. Along with the damage, they stole the day's takings and a mobile phone.
Simon Trzopek, Retail Area Manager at the Children’s Air Ambulance, said: “This is a devastating blow to our team, and it is heart-wrenching to know that thieves have targeted a charity store dedicated to supporting lifesaving services for children.
"The damage is significant, not just financially, but emotionally.
"Our hardworking staff and volunteers put in so much effort to run the store, and to see it targeted in this way is truly upsetting.”
