Wolves appoint Vitor Pereira as new Head Coach - how much do we know about the Portuguese coach?
Vitor Pereira has been appointed as the new Head Coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers following the sacking of Gary O'Neil.
The 56-year-old has signed an 18-month deal with the club, as he departs Saudi Pro League team Al Shabab.
Reacting to the announcement, Chairman Jeff Shi said: “We are delighted to welcome Vitor Pereira to Wolves as the new head coach of our men’s first-team. Vitor is a highly respected and experienced coach who has achieved success across different leagues and will bring a new approach for the test ahead.
“This is a challenging moment for the club, and we want to thank Vitor for taking on this responsibility. We have full confidence in his ability to guide us back on track, alongside the players and staff, and the entire club will be united in supporting him to achieve success.”
O'Neil's sacking followed the Black Country club's fourth defeat in a row in the Premier League at home to Ipswich Town.
The visitors were searching for their first league win this season and it came through some lapse defending, which lead to an own goal by Matt Doherty.
Wolves came back into it thanks to Brazilian Matheus Chuna but O'Neil's side couldn't hold on and in the 94th minute Jack Taylor was unmarked in the box to nod in the winner for Ipswich.
That marked the end of the line for the 41-year-old who left his role the next day - and the club second bottom with only two wins and on nine points.
What is the Portugese manager's connection to Wolverhampton Wanderers?
Not long after reports emerged that the club's board had already made their move to bring in his replacement.
Pereria's name was widely touted as the man to be in the dugout for Wolves game against Leicester City on Sunday 22 December.
He mainly had an amateur playing career, and decided to try his hand at coaching at the age of 28.
After a spell with FC Porto's junior side, he was given the reins at Portuguese sides Sanjoanense and Espinho before he returned to Porto's youth side.
In 2010, he became the assistant manager to Andre Villas-Boas, when he left for the Chelsea job, Pereria was promoted to number one.
He guided his side to the league title in the 2011\12 and 2012\13 seasons. As well as picking up both Portuguese super cups.
In the summer of 2013, he was interviewed for the Everton job but instead signed a two-year-deal with Saudi side Al-Ahli.
Two years later, Pereria was on the move again, this time to Greece, where he won the Greek league and cup double with Olympiacos.
After spells in Turkey with Fenerbahce and in Germany with 1860 Munich, he took over at Chinese side Shanghai SIPG and won the club their first-ever league title in the 2017\18 season.
Pereria then was in charge of Corinthians and Flamengo in Brazil before he signed with Saudi side Al Shabab in February this year.
Now he finds himself in England in charge of Wolves and his first big game with the club will be against Leicester City which is a cliche six-pointer in their fight to avoid relegation.
