Complaints over mysterious 'high pitched' loud noise heard in Derby
An investigation into a mysterious loud noise in Derby is underway after it triggered complaints from several residents.
Councillors issued a statement on Sunday evening (April 14) to say a “high pitched” sound was heard in the early morning and throughout most of Saturday (April 13) within the Spondon and Borrowash area.
But the exact location and source of the noise remains unclear – prompting an investigation to take place. Spondon councillors, Chris Poulter, Jonathan Smale and Nicola Roulstone, believe it could be coming from a nearby business estate, but that is not certain.
Councillors say the matter has been reported to Derby City Council’s environmental protection team who will look into the situation.
A statement on the Spondon Councillors Facebook page said: “We are investigating a noise issue that a few residents have been in touch with. We have put this forward to our Environmental Protection Team to take a look at.
“However, we have to date not been able to identify where it is coming from. It is a high-pitched noise that can be heard in the early morning and yesterday it was heard from the majority of the day.
“Residents who live near the south of Spondon can hear it most and even residents in Borrowash have reported it.
“It does sound like it could be coming from the commercial park or the Smart Parc. If anyone has any information that could help us, that would be fantastic.”
One resident responded to the post by saying: “We were walking up and down Merchant Avenue yesterday (Saturday) at about 5pm. My niece was saying she could hear a beeping sound continuously. We couldn’t hear it so thought it must be something pretty high-pitched.”
Another said: “We hear it intermittently and we’re just off Locko Road. I thought it may be from the wind turbines?”
