'Dangerous' combat knife found hidden in metal barrier in Birmingham by police

A combat knife hidden inside a metal barrier has been discovered in Birmingham as part of new searches.

West Midlands Police were carrying out a weapons sweep in Ward End when they found the offensive weapon.

Officers from the Washwood Heath Neighbourhood Team made the discovery on Monday.

The team have said it could have easily gone unnoticed due to the way it was hidden.

The searches are part of continued work to tackle street violence and protect the public.

A machete was also discovered stashed in bushes St. Margaret’s Road Park while offices were searching Oaklands Recreational ground in Yardley. 

Officers were pleased to make the find, with one saying, "I'm buzzing".

They are now calling on the public to help them tackle knife crime.

Parents are being asked to speak to their children about the devastating impact of carrying knives – and are calling on communities to tell the police if they have suspicions someone they know routinely carries a weapon.
