Check out the latest Coronavirus infection rates across the Midlands
Here are the rates of infection for every local authority area in England in the seven days to September 26th.
New cases were recorded in all 315 local authority areas.
265 of them recorded an increase in cases.
The rate fell in 48 areas and was unchanged in two areas.
- This data is released every Tuesday and is based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government's testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two).
- In previous lists Leicester and Northampton have both come top, with Birmingham consistently high. Although these areas are further down the list, rates are still high, and directors of Public Health are warning people to follow rules on hygiene, mixing and social distancing.
- Burnley now has the highest rate in England, with 279 new cases recorded in the seven days to September 26 - the equivalent of 313.8 cases per 100,000 people. This is up sharply from 164.2 in the seven days to September 19.
- In the Midlands, Birmingham has the highest rate of infection, in the top 30 overall, while Leicester and Sandwell are in the top 40.
The figures comes as the Prime Minister is due to lead a briefing later after the UK recorded the highest number of daily coronavirus cases since the outbreak began.
From left to right the list reads:
- name of local authority

- number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to September 26
- rate of new cases in the seven days to September 19
- number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to September 19.
