Midlands basks in sunshine on hottest day of the year

As lockdown restrictions are eased, thousands of people across the Midlands have been coming out to enjoy the hottest day of the year.

Temperatures were predicted to soar to 32 degrees in Leicester, while the mercury was set to hit 31 degrees in Birmingham.

The spike in temperature comes after lockdown measures were eased.

People have been flocking to town and cities across the region, including the Embankment in Nottingham:

And shoppers in Birmingham didn’t stay away, despite rising temperatures.

The Primark in the city centre has been seeing scores of people walking through its doors despite there being long queues on its reopening day...ten days ago!

But the good weather comes with a warning for people to stay safe.

As people flock to the region's reservoirs and lakes, there’s an increase in the risk to life:

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents are also urging people to be careful amid a spate of wildfires in recent months.
