How to get to a good night's sleep in hot weather
When temperatures rise, it can be difficult to get a good night's sleep.
But there are a number of ways in which you can improve the quality of your sleep during the warmer weather.
Here are some tips...
1. Have a cold shower just before bed
You can help to cool your body down before you get into bed by having a cold shower.
This will help you to keep your body temperature lower, meaning you are more comfortable.
2. Don’t exercise just before bed
Do not exercise before bed if you are having trouble dealing with the heat throughout the night.
By exercising before you get in to bed you are raising your core body temperature.
If you are going to exercise make sure you do it a few hours before bed so that your body can cool down completely.
3. Stay hydrated throughout the day
You can help yourself get to sleep by making sure that you drink plenty of water during the day.
This helps you stay hydrated.
Dehydration is a common reason why people have sleepless nights.
4. Buy a fan/maintain air flow through the room
If you want to have a cooler room at night it is important to maintain air flow.
This means that if you have a window open, making sure that your room's door is open as well.
This helps to circulate cooler air through the room.
You can also use a fan to do this.
5. Get rid of the duvet and use thinner sheets/freeze sheets until bed time
You should swap out your duvet for thinner sheets or blankets during the warmer weather.
Another tip is to put your pillowcases and sheets in a sealed bag in the freezer and put them on your pillows 10 minutes before you are getting in to bed.
